Honey, it’s the first installment of 10 Questions W/ and our inaugural guest is the star of Oxygen’s new series “Boss Nails”, Dana Cody! I tried to get all up in her business, asking her about her salon, marriage to former Real Housewives of New York star Aviva Drescher’s father, George Teichner, and her relationships with the cast of RHONY too!
ChaseKILLS – Explain to us how you made your mark in the nail profession?
Dana Cody – I made my mark in the nail profession by creating Treasure Nails. Treasure Nails are real swarvoski crystals embedded in the nails. Each nail consists of over 100 crystals! I’ve trademarked and patented this method and Treasure Nails are now world wide!
CK – As a business owner, what has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced?
DC – As a business owner one of the biggest challenge is staffing. In the nail industry its very difficult to find people with a PASSION for nails. Many people are in it for the money as opposed to being in it to for the craft! A REAL nail tech understands that we are more than just someone that polishes nails. We help heal people by making them feel great about themselves through nail art etc…We are our clients therapist, friend, and they can confide in us! When a client leaves my chair I want them to feel like a new person all from their nails!!
DC – Managing so many “colorful” personalities is like running a daycare/psych ward lol!!! Each tech are artist so they have a very creative mindset!! Yet its still a competitive field so egos can get in the way as well!! When dealing with my staff I keep in mind that I was once/still are in their shoes! The average person that decides to do cosmotology doesn’t want a boss, they want to be their own boss! I understand that concept and that is why I HELP CREATE BOSSES! I tell my team all the time that we are “partners” and one day they will open their own “TippieToes”. I want my team to understand that owning a business is very possible if that is what they truly want!
CK – If you could do the nails of any person dead or alive, who would it be and why?
DC – If i could do nails on any person it would be my mother, Founder of Tippie Toes, Angela Page. My mother passed away from Leukemia before I became confident as a nail tech! I would also love to have done Madam CJ Walker, Dorothy Dandrige, Marylin Monroe. Current dream nails would be Michelle Obama, Beyonce, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, and Taylor Swift!!!!!
CK – The world had opinions on how your relationship with George Teichner, did that affect your decision to privately marry?
DC – YES!!! George and I decided to elope to avoid the naysayers and those who felt that we were a “reality tv couple”. I LOVE my husband. He’s my best friend and all that I have! He believes in me and I couldn’t ask for a better partner in crime!!
CK – What is the difference between Dana on Boss Nails, and the Dana we got to see while on The Real Housewives of New York City?
DC – WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET! Boss Nails shows how I run my business. RHONY showed my personal life entering a new family and meeting Aviva’s group of friends.
CK – The question everyone wants to know, have you done Aviva Drescher’s nails?
DC – Yes, I’ve done Aviva’s nails, and I was a nervous wreck!
CK – Have you done nails for any other of the ladies from RHONY?
DC – Sonja Morgan! I was blessed with the opportunity to give one of my favorite housewives a nail makeover!! Besides Sonja is FABULOUS anyways!!!
CK – With platforms like RHONY and now Boss Nails, what is the long term goal for TippieToes?
DC – I’ve already opened a Tippie Toes in LA. My next venture will be products and the Tippie Toes Beauty Academy, giving young individuals the opportunity to educate themselves in the cosmotology industry.
CK – Everyone these days is building a brand, what is your advice to those looking to create success on their own terms?
DC – Building a BRAND takes a lot of hard work!! My advice, create something that the world NEEDS/WANTS and don’t copy anyone. Become CREATIVE and success is bound to follow!!!
Catch “Boss Nails” which premieres tonight on Oxygen at 9pm ET/PT (8pm CT) and airs every Tuesday nights.
